Nathan Partain was named president and chief investment officer of Duff & Phelps Investment Management Co. in 2005. Prior to this promotion, Mr. Partain was executive vice president of Duff & Phelps from 1997 to 2005; and director of utility research at Duff & Phelps Investment Research Co. from 1989-1996, director of equity research from 1993-1996 and director of fixed income research in 1993.
Mr. Partain has been president, chief executive officer and chief investment officer of DNP Select Income Fund Inc. (NYSE: DNP) since 2001, following three years as executive vice president and chief investment officer of the fund, and president and chief investment officer of Duff & Phelps Utility and Corporate Bond Trust Inc. (NYSE: DUC) and of DTF Tax-Free Income Inc. (NYSE: DTF) since 2004. Mr. Partain became a director of DNP Select Income Fund Inc., Duff & Phelps Utility and Corporate Bond Trust Inc. and DTF Tax-Free Income Inc. in 2007. He is the portfolio manager of the DNP Select Income Fund Inc.
He has headed the utilities group at Duff & Phelps since 1989, two years after joining the company as an electric utility analyst. He also served as the company's director of fixed income and equity research in the early 1990s.
Prior to Duff & Phelps, Mr. Partain was with Gulf States Utilities Company, where he held positions as a financial analyst in its Treasury Department, a senior budget analyst on River Bend Nuclear Project, and director of regulatory affairs-Texas and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
He is also a director of Otter Tail Corporation (since 1993), a diversified electrical utility company.
Mr. Partain holds a B.S. and an M.B.A. from Sam Houston State University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder and a member of the CFA Society of Chicago.
