FORT Investment Management

Sanjiv Kumar is the Chief Investment Officer, co-founder, and a principal of FORT Investment Management. His responsibilities include strategy research and new research initiatives.

Prior to founding FORT in 1993, Dr. Kumar was a senior manager of investment at the World Bank from 1987 to 1992. During his time at the World Bank, he managed large fixed income portfolios in a number of major currencies and was responsible for investing a multi-billion dollar portfolio in U.S. and Canadian dollar securities. From 1985 to 1986, Dr. Kumar was the vice president of Free Market Inc., a Chicago-based economic and financial advisory firm for institutional money managers.

Dr. Kumar earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago and a B.A. in mathematics from the University of Delhi. He began his career in the asset management industry in 1985.

Sumit Kumar is a portfolio manager, managing director, and the senior member of the office of the chief investment officer of FORT Investment Management. His responsibilities consist of evaluating new strategies, increasing the robustness of the infrastructure used to evaluate the work of the research team, and assisting other departmental leaders in the development of firm infrastructure to implement new strategies.

Prior to this role, Mr. Kumar was the firm’s chief technology officer, overseeing FORT’s IT infrastructure, actively designing and developing real-time securities trading and data analysis solutions, and overseeing the software development team. His systematic equity trading research contributed to the equity market neutral program FORT established in 2008, which he now helps manage. Prior to joining FORT in 2004, Mr. Kumar worked as a systems engineer at AT&T Labs.

Mr. Kumar earned an M.S. in industrial and management engineering from Montana State University, Bozeman and a Bachelor of Technology degree in industrial engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He began his career in asset management in 2004.
